Devotions from the Mountains - A Book Review

I love being outdoors.  There is something about being out in nature that always makes me feel closer to God.  Enjoying the beauty of His creation and getting away from modern technology is something that I crave.  Whenever I feel burdened down by every day life I know it's time for me to take refuge in the great outdoors.

With winter setting in I know those times are more limited, so I was thrilled when I received Devotions from the Mountains.  It is a beautiful devotional book with breathtaking pictures.  I've flipped through and looked at the pictures over and over.   The devotions are uplifting and encouraging.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  Psalm 121:1-2
One thing I really like about this devotional is that you can start it whenever you want. So many books like this are dated, but not this one.  It makes it great for not feeling like you have to stay on a schedule or start at the beginning of the year.

With Christmas just around the corner this would make the perfect gift for the nature lover in your life

The Delusion - A Book Review

The Delusion is a different kind of christian fiction book than what I normally read, but I was very glad I decided to review it!  It's one of those books that keep you turning the pages until the very end.  You won't want to sleep or do anything else, but immerse yourself into the story.

The book covers some heavy topics so if you are a parent I would read it first before passing it on to your teen.  Suicide and spiritual warfare are main themes, but it has a very touching ending.

Eleven students at Masonville High School have committed suicide.  Amid the media frenzy and chaos, Owen tries to remain levelheaded until he endures his own near-death experience and wakes to a destressing new reality.

The people around him suddenly appear to be shackled and enslaved.

Owen frantically seeks a cure for what he thinks are crazed hallucinations, but his delusions become even more sinister.  An army of hideous, towering beings, unseen by anyone but Owen, are preying on his girlfriend and classmates, provoking them to self-destruction.

Owen eventually arrives at a mind-bending conclusion:  he's not imagining the evil-everyone else is blind to its reality.  He must warn and rescue those he loves, but this proves to be no simple mission.  Will he be able to convince anyone to believe him before it's too late?

Owen's heart-pounding journey through truth and delusion will force him to reconsider everything he believes.  He both longs for and fears the answers to questions that are quickly becoming too dangerous to ignore.

This type of book is not for everyone, but if you are willing to give it a try I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Sound of Rain - A Book Review

The thing that first drew me to The Sound of Rain was the beautiful cover and I soon realized that it had an equally beautiful story withing it's pages.

The Sound of Rain is by Sarah Loudin Thomas.  It is set in the 1950's in South Carolina.  After a family tragedy Judd decides to never work in the mines again.  He leaves his hometown in West Virginia to start a new live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  It's not long before he begins to develop feelings for his bosses daughter.

Larkin has lived a life of simplicity.  Because of her father's money she doesn't have many worries.  She is free to live her life dancing and doing as she pleases, but she longs for something more meaningful.  She wants to help the poor children in Kentucky, but leaving would mean leaving Judd.  When a hurricane hits Larkin and Judd are drawn together and they both find their selves seeking God's will for their lives.  Will it include each other or lead them down different paths?

If you've ever suffered loss.  If you've ever sought after God's path for your life, this book will be one that you easily connect with.  The story will tug at your heartstrings and leave you feeling encouraged.
